Dogs 6 weeks of age and older can safely receive this vaccine. It is a 1 ml dosage. After the first dosage, puppies should be revaccinated every 2-3 weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. If vaccinating dogs 12 weeks of age and older, administer 2 doses 2-3 weeks apart. After that point, annual revaccination is recommended to effectively prevent disease. Do not administer the vaccine to pregnant dogs.

Conveniently, this vaccine can be administered as a subcutaneous (SC) or as an intramuscular (IM) injection. It can be injected in the fold of skin on the back of the dog’s neck or behind the dog’s front leg for subcutaneous injections. For intramuscular injections, it can be injected in the quadriceps, the triceps, or on either side of the lumbar spine. To open the syringe, the cap should be twisted or tapped against a hard surface. This will break the heat weld. To prepare the vaccine, inject the diluent solution into the vial with the vaccine cake then shake well. Once mixed, draw out all the liquid into the syringe. Choose your injection site and prepare it well with antiseptic. Then, lift the skin and insert the needle; if blood begins to enter the syringe, you should choose a different injection site to avoid injecting the vaccine into a blood vessel. Once you have inserted the needle in a safe injection site, inject the entire contents of the syringe into the dog. Finally, dispose of unused contents properly.

Be sure that you only vaccinate healthy animals. Unhealthy animals may not develop an adequate immune response to the vaccination. An anaphylactoid reaction may occur. If it does, give the dog an epinephrine and contact a veterinarian if the reaction does not improve.
